Step by step guide to automate Contabo snapshots
Overview
This guide will walk you through the steps to automate Contabo server snapshots and back them up on a custom scheduleβdaily, hourly, weekly, or based on your preferences.
Step 1: Connect Your Contabo Account to SimpleBackups
To automate Contabo snapshots, you first need to generate an API token and link your Contabo account to SimpleBackups.
Generate Your Contabo API Credentials
- Log in to your Contabo Cloud Panel at https://my.contabo.com.
- In the sidebar, navigate to API.
- Click Generate New API Token.
- Enter a name for your token, assign the necessary permissions (Read & Write), and click Create Token.
Important: The API token will be displayed only once. Be sure to copy it immediately and store it securely.
- Keep this token handy for the next steps.
Add Contabo as a Provider in SimpleBackups
- Open the SimpleBackups dashboard and navigate to the Snapshots section.
- Click on the plus button to connection a new provider.
- From the dropdown, select Contabo.
- Provide a name for your Contabo account.
- Paste the API token and credentials you generated earlier.
- Click Save provider to finalize the connection.
Step 2: Create a Contabo Snapshot Backup Job
With your Contabo account connected, you can set up a snapshot backup job to automate snapshot creation and management.
Configure the Snapshot Job
- Select Your Contabo Account
- Choose your connected Contabo account from the dropdown list.
- Choose the Server for Snapshot Automation
- Under Resource Type, select "Server."
- The Resource dropdown will populate with all servers linked to your Contabo account. Choose the server you wish to automate.
- Set Schedule & Snapshot Retention
- Specify the schedule and number of snapshots to retain.
- Save the Snapshot Backup Job
- Provide a descriptive name for your snapshot backup job.
- Click Create Snapshot to complete the setup.
Summary
Your Contabo snapshots are now automated! They will follow the schedule and retention settings you configured. You can monitor and manage them easily within the SimpleBackups dashboard.
