How to Backup your Database inside a Docker Container.

Using SimpleBackups to Backup Databases in Docker Containers

Easily connect SimpleBackups to Docker containers on your server without the need to expose or map the container to an external port on your server. Follow this guide to set up connections, configure backup options, and ensure the safety of your containerized databases.

Step 1: Connect your server

You can follow this guide (Link iconCreate a file/server backup – SimpleBackups Help Center) to connect your server which has docker containers inside it.

Step 2: Create Your Backup

  • Choose your server with docker you just connected (from Own Server box).

  • Click on Select a Docker Container.
  • Your Docker Containers will be fetched and you can select the one having the database you need to backup.

  • Click Save.
  • Fill the form with your database connection parameters.
  • Note that By default the host will be 127.0.0.1 or localhost inside the docker container.
  • Complete your backup options then click Create Backup.

Now you have a database backup for the database inside the docker container you have selected without the need to expose or map the container to an external port on your server.
